M100 Wireless Vehicle Detection System

Accurate and easy to install vehicle detection system. A cost effective alternative to inductive loops suitable for all signal control systems such as MOVA and SCOOT. The only wireless solution compatible with all traffic signal controllers.

Benefits

  • Reduced installation costs
  • Ease of system installation, no loop cutting or trenching required
  • More cost effective than traditional inductive loops
  • Increased reliability compared to inductive loops
  • Easy configuration using Traffic Dot (Java Application)

Features

  • Standard 3U rack size contact closure card
  • Four detection channels per card
  • Selectable presence time
  • Traffic light controller manufacturer independent to ensure compatibility
  • Replicates traditional loop inputs
  • Optically isolated contact closure signals (n/c and n/o)
  • On site verification buzzer to assist installation
  • Type Aproved to UK Highways Agency specification TR2512A
  • Power saving LED display mode

Traditionally, vehicle detection for the majority of traffic signal applications was via the simple inductive loop. Although, whilst loops have proven to be generally reliable, their design and functioning has led many industry professionals to question their practicality and cost-effectiveness.

Disruptive slot cutting and trenching loop failures and faulty, continuous red lights lead to frustration, road rage and potential collisions.

Loop detectors are also just a quick-fix rather than a long-term solution. In some trials, loops were found to be beyond repair after only 2 years meaning hefty maintenance and re-installation bills.

Switching from the outmoded method of inductive loops to the more cost-effective, reliable M100 from Golden River has a multitude of benefits.

Golden River's M100 magnetometer-based vehicle detection sensor utilises new technologies to ensure a smooth installation and deliver a long-term solution for ultra efficient traffic signal control.

Thanks to Sensys Networks Inc, our technology partner, the M100 also features extremely low powered two way radio communications which enable it to be compact in size and depth. What's more, the battery life has impressive longevity of 10 years.

Since there's no trenching or ducting involved, the slim line profile of the magnetometer sensors can be installed quickly and easily and is also fully type-approved to the Highways Agency's specifications and also is compatible with all types of MIDAS outstations and urban traffic light systems such as SCOOT, MOVA and System D.

Constituents of the system:

1) M100 Flush in-road wireless sensor:
A sensitive magnetometer equipped with a low power secure radio transmitter.

2) M110 Access point:
Maintains two way communications with the Sensors and repeater units.
Relays detection data via M120 interface card to the traffic signal controller.

3) M115 Repeater unit:
Used to increase the range and coverage between the sensors and access point if out of range of the nearest access point.

4) M120 Magnetometer interface card:
Four detection channels to pass identification information to the traffic signal controller.

The TrafficDot system configuration software is licence free and available for download via the Technical Documentation link in the Product Toolbox to the right of this page.

Slough Borough Council M100 Installation
Slough Borough Council and their traffic signal consultant partners Atkins were looking for a more cost effective solution when upgrading multiple traffic signalised junctions along the very busy main A4 dual carriageway that included extending the Split Cycle Offset Optimisation Technique (SCOOT) detection coverage. 91 were installed, both on the main A4 dual carriageway and also a large number of intersecting side roads at 11 separate junctions.
