Astucia - Cycle path in Australia

Location
Australia, Melbourne, Gardiners Creek Cycle Path
Application
Cycle Path Delineation
Product
Astucia SolarLite road studs
The Problem
The Gardiners Creek bicycle path runs along the Gardiners Creek thru Stonnington City Council and other municipalities and it is one of the key routes into and out of the Melbourne central city area with over 2,500 cyclists riding along the path each day. With such a large amount of commuters using the path on a regular basis it is important that the route is adequately lit.
The Solution
Over 200 bi-directional white solar flush studs have already been installed along the bicycle path already in two stages and a third stage of 350metres along the Yarra River on the Main Yarra Trail will be installed in mid-August 2009 taking the total number of studs installed to around 300. This improves the path for cyclists and helps to increase its usage as one of the main thoroughfairs in and out of the City.
The spacing of the studs, on each side of the path, varies from 10metre centres along the straight sections of the path to approx 6 metres along the curved sections therefore providing strong visual cues for cyclists along the darkest sections of the paths during the hours of darkness.
The path is also well used by joggers and walkers all of whom appreciate the work undertaken by Stonnington Council which includes a full path upgrade prior to installing the studs.
Benefits
- Increased visibility on the path
- Increased usage of the path
Testimonial
Peter Doupe from Astucia Australia commented “We are delighted to be helping to improve visibility on the Gardiners Creek path, particularly in the winter months with long nights and shorter days, a large number of the cyclists are benefitting from the recent installation.”
