Avid readers of Thinking Highways will be familiar with the supplement ‘Managed Motorways’. The more observant amongst you though, will realise that this month’s edition features such an extensive list of articles that it near resembles its own magazine.

The article itself explores channels of transmitting information on motorways through the ages from the traditional inductive loop to modern-day magnetometer-based vehicle sensing.
He points to the M100 wireless vehicle detector developed by Golden River and manufactured by technology partner Sensys Networks Inc. as the contemporary solution to ultra-efficient managed motorways.
The sensors are robust with impressive longevity, withstanding the full weight of traffic and surviving in road temperatures of -40oC to +85oC plus wireless radio communications and the ability to be deployed for a diverse range of applications.
Overhead signage has also been examined with a focus on reliability and suggestion of information being relayed by Intelligent Road Studs to create Dynamic Lane Marking instead.
